Maserati Quattroporte Depreciates More than Other Cars: ‘I See Cars’

Maserati Quattroporte

Auto sales website reports the best and worst of depreciation, and Maserati is not the only luxury car you’ll take a significant loss with.

It’s no secret that the very second you roll a car off the lot, you’re losing money. However, some brands are far worse about it than others. While there are plenty of examples of exotic and luxury cars that have gone up in value, there are just as many stories of vehicles worth a scary fraction of their original price.

Car search engine website I See Cars released some awesome depreciation data with all the specifics we could dream of. The data is based on over 7.7 million new and used car sales, and measure the amount of depreciation for five years. Let’s start with the worst ones, shall we?

Maserati leads worst depreciation list

Keep in mind that the above list is to no other niche than only the worst cars in terms of holding their value. This is regarding all vehicles. While the Maserati Quattroporte holds down the number one spot, BMW makes the list an unfortunate four out of ten times. Additionally, the Jaguar XJL and Acura RLX made the worst ten.

Let’s put the Maserati in perspective, here. Let’s say you purchased a brand new 2020 Maserati Quattroporte for $109,500, assuming you pay the absolute base MSRP. That means by 2025, assuming this trend continues, that Maserati will be worth $30,441. That’s over $79,000 gone due to depreciation!

2014 Porsche 911

Perhaps the most surprising thing about the lists for all cars is the number six spot in the top ten least depreciating — the Porsche 911. We don’t have to convince you that the 911 is a great car, but we do have to admit we’re a little surprised to see it with the likes of Toyota trucks and Jeeps in terms of resale value.

Least Depreciated Cars List

Equally as surprising is the Nissan GT-R. The face-melting fast flagship Nissan has seen some pretty affordable options on the market from its earlier years, but it seems that the first five years of fun won’t cost you all that much in the grand scheme of things.

Look, we all know most don’t buy a brand new car with the thought they’ll ever see all the money again. However, it is super exciting to see all the data. They offered several different niches, including SUVs, trucks, and sports cars. The lists are definitely worth a look!
