Low-mile Rides Ready for Carlisle Winter AutoFest Auction
2005 Ford GT, 1978 Silver Anniversary Corvette among over 400 lots up for grabs in Florida, Feb. 21 and 22.
Wintertime isn’t such a great time if you’re an owner of a fine machine. Instead of taking the Ferrari out for a drive in the country, or rolling around town in your Porsche, they’re all tucked away in the climate-controlled garage. At least you have a beater Ford pickup to drive through the salt and snow, though.
On the other hand, winter is a fine time to add to your stable through the auction block. And when the auction is in a warm place, it’s even better. Such a happening is set to occur in Lakeland, Florida February 21 and 22, when Carlisle Auctions hosts its latest auction at the Sun ‘n Fun Expo Campus during the Carlisle Winter AutoFest.
Over the course of the two-day auction, over 400 lots will cross the block, including this 2005 Ford GT. This red rarity happens to be one of five GTs ordered in the 2005 model year to arrive without stripes. It also has just 1,531 miles on the 5.4-liter V8 and six-speed manual. And of course, it has all of its original documents and full-service history. We’d certainly love to drive this down into Tampa Bay for a day.
Another low-mileage ride to roll up to the Carlisle auction block is a 1978 Silver Anniversary Corvette. While most C3-era cars have more than a few thousand miles on their V8s, this one just has 213 miles on its L82 350 V8. The ‘Vette’s appeared at the National Corvette Museum, and it has a CB radio-ready to connect you to truckers on Interstate 4. We’d take this one up to Disney World, for sure.
“We are looking forward to this being our most successful Winter AutoFest Lakeland Auction to date,” said Director of Auction Operations, Tony Cline. “We have been fortunate to consign the best group of vehicles that we have ever offered at the Sun ‘n Fun venue.”
While the GT and the Corvette have reserves, more than a few of the 400-plus lots are ready to go to the highest bidder. There’s even a special hour-long block for Corvettes, including the ’69 above, set for February 22 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. The auction day starts at 10:30 a.m. each day and goes until the cows come home.
