Leno Drives The New Porsche 918 Spyder
Last week in Monterey, Frank Walliser, head of the Porsche 918 Spyder program, takes funnyman Jay Leno through the new super sports hybrid that Porsche says will act as the “gene pool” for its sports cars of the future.
As a refresher, the 918 project is Porsche’s first foray into the hybrid-hypercar arena. The spyder features a gas-powered 4.6-litre V8, that makes 600bhp at 8600rpm, with 390lb ft of tourque at 6600rpm, and a 9150rpm redline. The 918 also features a hybrid module which is powered by a 154bhp electric motor brought to life via lithium-ion batteries. Combined the two powerplants churn out a whopping 875bhp.
