Audi’s monstrous RS4 estate and 2.7l Quattro Avant and the original hot hatch from VW set to hit the block March 28 & 29.

The U.K.’s Classic Car Auctions recently closed its catalog on a vast selection of classic, rare and unique cars to be auctioned on March 28 and 29, including not one but two legendary vehicles.

Manufacturers often took what was just an everyday car and gave it some real grunt. Estate cars were always a great example and there is none better than the Audi RS4 Avant (below). Ford took the Sierra, a typical company car, and gave it four-wheel-drive and a bigger engine that spawned the XR4i and the Sapphire RS Cosworth 4×4. Volkswagen took the Golf and turned it into what became possibly the father of Hot Hatches.

2001 Audi RS4 Avant 2.7 Twin Turbo

Classic Car Auctions will be offering two 2001 Audi RS4 Avants with the 2.7-liter twin-turbo engine. Producing a limited top speed of 162 mph, this was an estate car not to be messed with. The B5 was the successor to the RS2, which was also a sheep in wolf’s clothing.

The first 2001 Audi RS4 Avants (below) will be up for auction on March 28 and has 66,463 miles. Estimated at $24,800 to $31,000, it comes with its original books and is stunning in Avus Silver with black leather RS sports interior and Recaro seats.

‘To have two fine examples of Audi’s RS4 Avant is amazing and these really are in tremendous condition.’

The second Audi will be on offer on March 29 and is equally stunning in the rare Goodwood Green and has a full Miltek exhaust and stage 1 upgrade by MTM which has all been documented. Despite its 107,000 miles, this RS4 scores very highly on the condition report and comes with a full Audi and specialist history file.

Both impressive estate cars, but which one do you choose?

The next pairing is the Ford Sierra XR4i and the Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth 4×4 (below). Both these cars were the middle of the range company cars in standard form and at its peak, the Sierra was Britain’s second best-selling car. The sportier models gained a legendary following and also in this sale is an XR4x4 which replaced the earlier XR4i.

1991 Ford Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth 4x4

The Ford Sierra XR4i (below) will be offered on March 28 and has just be re-commissioned after 15 years of storage. Presented in the classic color of Ford Diamond White this 1983 XR4i has had just two former owners and shows 39,588 miles. Estimated at $12,400 to $14,900, it comes with an extensive history file, original book pack, and a fresh MOT. This is a superb three-door hot saloon.

1983 Ford Sierra XR4i

The Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth 4×4 is the four-door booted version of the Sierra, but with Cosworth power and four-wheel drive. This car has only been lightly used over the last three years and has been subject to minor works to bring it up to this level of condition. Estimated at $14,900 to $18,600 this is one of those legendary Ford RS Cosworths that you should have in your garage.

When you hear the phrase hot hatches you automatically think of the early Eighties cars from Peugeot, Ford, and VW. Well, CCA has not one but two superb Volkswagen Golf GTis both with similar mileage. The first Volkswagen Golf GTi (below), which will be offered on March 28, spent the first 37 years with its first owner and has been with the current one since 2019. The rare ride is estimated at $14,900 to $18,600. The second GTi is offered on March 29 and has 85,511 miles on the clock. It has a 1.6-liter engine and is estimated at $9,900 to $12,400.

“To have two fine examples of Audi’s RS4 Avant is amazing and these really are in tremendous condition,” says Gary Dunne, Classic Car Auctions Manager. “Everyone loves a Fast Ford and people tend to think of Fiesta and Escort, but these bigger brother examples are some of the greatest, an RS Cosworth 4×4 saloon, wow.”

“The two Golf GTis, these are really special early models in fine condition, and they have that classic shape depicting an era of the finest in hot hatches. The team is very proud of the cars on offer, it is one of our best catalogs.”
