Lamborghini to Introduce Two Models Featuring Hybrid V12 Powertrains

Forthcoming Lamborghini supercar will be accompanied by an Aventador replacement and both offerings will feature hybrid V12 powertrains.

It is no surprise that Lamborghini will soon be introducing a plug-in hybrid variant of its Urus nameplate. With the fast-growing popularity of SUVs, crossovers, and pickup trucks, most legacy automakers are trying to capitalize on the trend by introducing their utility vehicles. The Italian automaker will also be introducing a flagship model sometime later this year following the release of its Urus PHEV.

According to industry reports, this will be the last model to feature Lamborghini’s legendary 6.5-liter V12 engine. It’s also been reported that Lamborghini intends on electrifying its future supercar nameplates. Even with the ongoing pandemic, European supercar manufacturers have not been deterred from developing exorbitantly priced high-performance exotic models.

Most recently, Gordon Murray Automotive introduced the T.50s supercar, and earlier in February, Picasso announced that it will soon launch a 600 HP mid-engine offering, which will feature an Italian V6 motor. Lamborghini also reported impressive sales in the past year. The president of Bugatti Automobiles, Stephan Winkelmann has confirmed that Lamborghini will introduce two brand new V12 models, sometime later this year.

Winkelmann refrained from divulging any details about the forthcoming models, but according to an Autocar report, one of the models will be based on the company’s Aventador hypercar. The model might even share its supercapacitor technology with the Sián FKP 37 model. It has also been reported that the second model will be a replacement for the company’s Aventador nameplate, which was first introduced back in 2011.

Back in late 2019, Lambo’s design engineer Mitja Borkert confirmed that Sián FKP 37’s styling will not be used for any of the future models. This implies that we’ll see the upcoming V12 offerings sport brand new designs, and if Lamborghini’s record is any indication, the upcoming models will be a sight to behold.

The company’s Technical Chief Officer, Maurizio Reggiani also divulged that Lamborghini’s forthcoming V12 models will not use turbochargers and instead, they will adopt a hybrid system. This will allow the Italian supercar manufacturer to comply with Europe’s emissions norms. It is also possible that Lamborghini will use the V12 to propel the rear-wheels of the upcoming models while an electric motor might be used to drive the front axle, which will bestow the car with an all-wheel-drive setup.
