What Happens When You Give a McLaren Test Driver the Keys to a 570S, a Set of Studded Snow Tires, and a Wide-Open Frozen Lake?

McLaren test driver Kenny Brack is well versed in performance driving, especially with regards to low-grip driving in various rally and rallycross events. This, then, should be a cakewalk for him. Taking a 570S up to a frozen lake 200 miles north of the arctic circle, fitting the car with studded snow tires, and letting him rip around for a while is a great idea, if for no other reason than we get this gorgeously-shot film from the experience. Personally, I love ice driving when the tires are as grippy as the ones fitted here, with hundreds of little spikes jutting out of the tread.

Aside from the cold (which I could easily get over), I am seriously jealous of Brack here. The wonderful turbocharged V8 sitting behind him is one of the best in the business, and with an analog chassis, he can likely control the 570S quite well in slippery conditions. I’ve done a few winter driving schools, including Porsche’s Camp 4; in addition to learning a lot about car control, they’re always a lot of fun. Brack’s car control is pretty great in this video, as he nails transitions with ease, and keeps the car sideways pretty much the whole time. Combined with the phenomenal backdrops, Kenny’s driving makes this video a visual spectacle that you just have to see.

In case you want to find this lake for yourself, you’ll have to go to McLaren’s Ice Driving Center in Ivalo, Finland. You could probably ship your car there to have a great time. Or maybe just take your McLaren on a road trip to Canada or Northern Michigan and find a lake somewhere you can hoon around on for a while. Either way, you’re bound to have a ball.
