What Happens When a Remote-Controlled Audi R8 Races Its Full-Scale Counterpart?

We present to you the most exciting drag race of the holiday season! A drag race with a big red sleigh, and a toy that anyone would excitedly un-wrap early on Christmas morning. It’s the battle between the Audi R8 V10 and a remote-controlled Audi R8 electric car.

Bigger, heavier, but vastly more powerful, the 532-horsepower Audi R8 V10 takes the right lane. Coming in at 1:6 scale in the left lane, the remote-control toy car is less of a toy, and more of a powerhouse. Its electric battery packs provide 5,000 milliampere hours of zap to the 1,200kV electric motor. Numbers like those mean it can scoot to 60 mph at a near-equal pace with the V10 Audi.

Scaling down the 1/4 mile to 1/6th length means the races are almost over before they begin. That makes the race a total of 67 meters, or 220 feet. To further challenge things, the surface is wet and full of leaves, but the radio-controlled car has the advantage of all-wheel drive.

After a few attempts, it was clear that controlling the R/C Audi was easier said than done. Spin outs were expected, and on a number of tries, it crossed the finish line back-end first. Third time’s the charm, however, and everything came together for a clean run.
