Jaguar E-Type Celebrates 60 Years with Very Special U.K. Event
Legendary Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb and E-Type Club to host to massive Jaguar celebration in June 2021.
The Jaguar E-Type, one of history’s greatest automobiles, will turn 60 in 2021. As a result, the Jaguar E-Type Club has something extra special planned to mark this momentous occasion. The group of E-Type fanatics will be hosting what they call the E60 Festival at the legendary Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb in Worcestershire, England, on June 12 and 13, 2021. And this gathering certainly looks like it’ll be the ultimate E-Type fan’s dream event.
The iconic E-Type debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in 1961. At the time, to say that this was a groundbreaking machine would be a bit of an understatement. It touted a price that was a fraction of what a Ferrari or Aston Martin might cost at the time. And the E-Type offered up performance on par with those exotics. And as far as how it looked, well, even Enzo Ferrari called it the most beautiful car in the world.
Since its launch, the E-Type has enjoyed some legendary owners, including folks like Frank Sinatra and Princess Grace. Jaguar wound up producing 72,520 cars, an impressive number for a two-seat roadster. And even more impressively, a whopping 83% of those cars were exported to other countries. Today, the E-Type remains as popular as ever and is a highly sought after car among collectors.
The original Geneva press car will be in attendance at the E60 Festival. Along with what promises to be a massive gathering of other special cars. The Jaguar E-Type Club was formed in 2005 by author, publisher, and E-type collector Philip Porter and his wife Julie. Today, it enjoys over 1,600 active members in more than 50 countries. Porter, who penned the award-winning Jaguar E-type, The Definitive History, also owns the E-Type shown in the film The Italian Job.
We certainly can’t think of a more appropriate host or venue to celebrate Jaguar’s most iconic model. So if you’re a die-hard E-Type fan, you’ll want to go ahead and mark your calendar and plan on crossing the pond next June. In the meantime, you can find more information on the Jaguar E-Type Club and the E60 Festival, along with the club’s many other events, by heading over here.
