Here’s What You Need to Know About Ferrari 296 GTS (Gran Turismo Spider)
Ferrari 296 GTS can achieve a top speed of 205 MPH. Customers can still hit a top speed of 84 MPH in this Italian supercar in electric-only mode.
Automakers around the world are quickly adopting electric mobility. With electrification taking over the world, thoroughbred supercar manufacturers are now also following legacy automakers’ footsteps and introducing electrified offerings. Recently the Maranello automaker Ferrari 296 GTS made its world debut to a lot of fanfare.
In June last year, Ferrari introduced its first V6 supercar. The company’s latest offering is a much more practical version of the nameplate. The two-seater sports car does not offer more storage than its sibling, but it offers plenty of headroom as a Roadster. The Ferrari 296 Gran Turismo Spider comes complete with a retractable hardtop, and the roof folds away in just 14 seconds.
Furthermore, owners can retract the roof while cruising at speeds of up to 30 MPH. It also splits into two sections that slide into the engine bay as the top folds away. Our avid readers know that Ferrari never shies away from showing off its immaculately designed powerplants. The Ferrari 296 GTD carries the tradition forward, and onlookers can admire the sublime motor via a rear window. A 3-liter V6 motor propels this Italian supercar.
In addition to the Ferrari 296 GTS, the Italian automaker will also introduce its Purosangue SUV this year.
On its own, the powerplant churns out 663 HP of maximum power. The powertrain of Ferrari 296 GTS also uses an electric motor which bumps its power output up to 830 HP and produces 546 lb-ft of peak torque. The hybrid powerplant hooks up to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The plug-in hybrid drivetrain of Ferrari 296 GTS allows it to hit the 62 mph mark from a complete standstill in just 2.9 seconds.
Furthermore, this roadster can accelerate to 124 MPH in just 7.6 seconds. Ferrari claims that its latest offering can achieve a top speed of 205 MPH, and in electric-only mode, customers can still hit a top speed of 84 MPH. However, if you switch to electric power, the 7.45 kWh battery pack of the 296 GTS only offers 15.5 miles of driving range.
