German Sports Coupe Drag Race Comparison: Cayman S vs M2 vs TT RS
4, 5, or 6 cylinders? Which German Sports Coupe provides the best speed in this class?
If you’ve got about 65-grand in your pocket, and you want to buy the quickest German sports two-seater (yeah, okay, technically the BMW seats four, but good luck with that in practical use), which of these three stonking great cars do you pick? There’s really only one answer for that question, and in order to find out, DriveTribe‘s Vicky Parrott took all three of them to a runway. A simple test was devised to measure each car’s acceleration figures to 30, 60, 100, and 130 miles per hour.
Even before the drag racing begins, it’s easy to see which of these cars will win out in this battle. The Audi TT RS is a mega performance car for the spend, given its great AWD system, it’ll have the advantage off the line, and with the highest power and torque figures of the trio, that advantage will only grow as the speeds increase. It is also the only dual-clutch car of the three, meaning the others will lose additional time with each manually-activated gearshift. The Porsche and the BMW nail their 0-30 and 0-60 times in the exact same figure, but the Audi is far-quicker. The Porsche’s more aerodynamic shape gives it an advantage over the BMW at higher speeds, but it can’t catch the Audi.

Acceleration is fun, but in this segment, it’s not the only important thing. We’re not saying the Audi isn’t necessarily the best of the three, but that there are other metrics which should be measured before making your new car buying decision. For our needs, the M2 doesn’t even factor, making this a one-on-one fight between the Audi and the Porsche. Luckily, this is just one of four parts in which DriveTribe thoroughly tests these cars.
