Ferrari 488 Spider Goes Topless

The Ferrari 488 has only been with us for what seems like a fortnight, but the Italian company is already making sure Rodeo Drive cruisers can be seen in the newest prancing horse. That’s right, the new 488 Spider. Debuting with a quite sensational bespoke website, the new 488 just might stir up the right potion for those who feel the need to be seen.

With a top who’s operation spans a scant 14 seconds, the new Spider will offer another sensual experience that the coupe simply can’t provide. Performance wise, the penalty of added weight is kept at bay with only 50 additional kilograms aboard. V-max will still exceed the 200 mph threshold at 203 mph, which means this is now Ferrari’s fastest open-top car, and acceleration figures provided show a run to 124kph will be only 0.4 slower than the coupe at 8.7 seconds. Under the newly sculpted rear buttresses, it’ll see the same 661 hp twin-turbo 3.9 litre V8 as its closed-top stablemate, sending power to just the rear wheels.

It has to be said, though, that the type of purchaser for the 488 Spider might not be too concerned with those numbers, however impressive they may be. They are looking for an open-top Ferrari first, and a fast car a very close second. This of course doesn’t mean that the excitement of the car will be lost simply because of who the car is catered to. Actually, the only thing it does lose is the visceral scream of the engine towards the redline that was once found in the old 458.
