End of the Line: 2004 Ascari Ecosse
One-of-a-kind chance to own a one-of-a-kind supercar.
Ascari, the supercar company, may not be familiar to you. The name itself should be, however, as it’s shared with the excellent Ascari Race Resort, a track located in Ronda, Malaga, Spain. That truck, in turn, was named for the legendary Alberto Ascari, the legendary Italian Formula 1 driver who gave Ferrari their first world championship.
It’s quite a name to live up to. When Klaas Zwart, the owner of Ascari Race Resort, set out to build a supercar, he made sure that it was worthy of its name. The 2004 Ascari Ecosse seen here represents the final example of the company’s first production supercar.
Just 17 were built between 1998 and 2004. The final three cars, including the one seen here, were fitted with 5.0 liter BMW V8s modified by the legendary German tuner Hartge. Earlier cars used BMW 4.4 and 4.7 liter V8 engines.
A High Performance Legacy
The lightweight Ecosse tips the scales at just over 2,750 pounds thanks to its lightweight space frame chassis and fiberglass body. The engine is tuned to produce 420 horsepower and 384 lb/ft of torque, resulting in a 0-60 sprint of just 4.0 seconds. Top speed is quoted at 200 miles per hour.
According to the listing on Drew Wheeler Sports and Classics, where the car is currently offered for sale, it’s a pleasant car to drive on the street despite its track-focused nature. They might be on to something, as this Ecosse has covered 11,000 miles since new.
That’s certainly not high mileage by normal standards, but this is an exclusive, limited production supercar. It’s more than we usually see on these types of cars.
Of the 17 Ascari Ecosses produced, seven were built in a right hand drive (RHD) configuration like this one. It’s also the only one of its kind, finished in Deep Maroon metallic with a grey leather interior.
Each one of these cars were custom ordered, and apparently, none have been offered for sale until now. If the Ascari Ecosse has been your dream car for the past two decades, now is your chance to finally own one of your own.
