Crazy DCB M35 Boat Video Highlights Cool Team Speed Forum Finds
Adrenaline-pumping boat crash clip is featured and explained in great detail in the forums.Â
Here at Team Speed, we’re all about, well, things that go fast. This includes cars, of course. But we’re also into everything from motorcycles to boats. And in the Team Speed forums, we’re often amazed at the cool, random things our members post. That includes this wild recap of a DCB M35 boat that suffered an insane crash at a Desert Storm Poker Run some time ago. Team Speed member dblnklamg posted the story and some incredible pics for everyone to take in.
“M35 flips at Havasu during the Desert Storm Poker Run. Word on the water is the M35 caught the prop wash of the leading M41 and caused the boat to go airborne. Thankfully everyone is alive.”
The fact that the folks on this boat walked away is pretty incredible in itself. But the M35 Widebody has garnered quite the reputation over the years not just for its killer styling and tremendous output, but also its stability. You’ve really got to try hard to make one of these things flip over. But as member GoFastKindaGuy points out, once you’ve passed that threshold, there isn’t much you can do about it.
“Cats can go these speeds BECAUSE they catch air in the tunnel. This ‘air pack’ creates lift and reduces hydrodynamic drag. It is a careful and delicate balance between lift and drag. When that balance is significantly upset – whether by air turbulence, cross wake or rooster tail – things can go wrong very quickly. So quickly, a human cannot react fast enough to introduce a control input even if one were available.Â
By the time a boat is airborne, vertically, any nose wing would be in an aerodynamic stall. Even if, somehow, it were not, the wing area – compared to the huge tunnel surface area – would be ineffective. Ever carry a sheet of plywood in wind? The practical solution is to anticipate potential disturbances and gently steer to calmer water or carefully slow down.”
