BMW Brought Elvis Presley’s 507 Roadster Back to Life

Elvis Presley always used his pendulum hips to woo and draw in his audience, so it’s only right that he owned and drove a car with some delicious curves. Everybody knows all about The King’s obsession with Cadillacs, but he owned plenty of other vehicles, as well. So many, in fact, that there is an entire automotive section at the museum in Graceland. Nearly all of the vehicles he had were historic in some regard, but the BMW 507 he owned is one of the most prime examples.

There are a few different stories about Elvis and his 507(s). Some say that he leased a white one that belonged to a former racecar driver, but he had to return it and later bought a red one. Others say he had the white one, but got tired of girls signing their phone numbers on it with lipstick, so he painted it red. Then there’s a story that he had the white one, returned it to BMW, then after his time in the military, BMW shipped it back to him. Either way, a 1957 507 Roadster that belonged to Elvis made its way back into the arms of BMW, and about two years ago, the Germans announced that they were going to restore it to original condition.

When BMW took delivery of the car, which was found in a barn that belonged to a man named Jack Castor, it had all sorts of things wrong with it, as you can see in the gallery just above. The body was all beat up, somebody put a Chevy V8 into it at one point, the interior was ratty, and the dashboard was non-existent.

Once everything was fixed and recrafted and put back into order, it was painted back to its original Feather White using methods that were applied 60 years ago. And now this car, one of 254 ever made, is beautiful again, as you can clearly see in the gallery below.
