With the luxury SUV wars heating up, Bentley tempts with third-row seating and more of everything.

Luxury SUVs are a hot ticket right now. Consumers are buying them in impressive numbers. And luxury marques including Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, Mercedes, Audi, and Jaguar are all scrapping for a piece of the pie. And Bentley came in hot. When Bentley introduced the Bentayga Speed it claimed the rare distinction being the world’s fastest production SUV.

Now, to further entice buyers, the SUV has increased options. Buyers can now choose from different engines. And Bentley added flexible seating options, including four and seven seat configurations.

The Bentley Bentayga range includes a Hybrid variant, and the land-rocket Bentayga Speed.

Running on a efficient 3.0 L turbocharged V6 gas engine with an electric motor, the Hybrid is the automaker’s first foray into electrification.

The 6.0 L W12 TSI engine that powers the Bentayga Speed is a red-blooded beast. It produces 635 hp, and has a raging top speed of 190 mph. It delivers 5-90% torque within 1.1 seconds, offering maximum torque at low engine speeds.

Obviously, the base Bentayga is no slouch, with a 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 with 549 hp, top speed of 180 mph, and sprints from 0-60 in 4.4 seconds.

Unfortunately, the Hybrid is only available as a four-seater. But now the Bentayga and Speed are available with four or seven seats; as well as a choice of the V8 or W12 engine.

The interior of the four seater is roomy and has a nice twin rear-seat model. Luxurious seating includes a 12-way electrical adjustment, heating, ventilation, and massage functions.

A center console between the two rear seats provides additional storage, USB charging sockets, and a trimmed and quilted backboard to separate the cabin from the trunk area. Of course there are those Bentley touches: Bentley rear entertainment, Bluetooth headphones, fold-down picnic tables, and individual, Mulliner-Console Drinks Cooler.

There is a heap of space and flexibility with the addition of a third row for the seven seater. The row of seats can be folded away electronically at the push of a button, to provide maximum room, while the middle row folds manually for ease of access. Handcrafted, the exclusive cabin employs the most all high-end finishes like rare wood veneers and high-gloss carbon fiber.

It seems Bentley is going to making the likes of Mercedes-Maybach, Porsche, and BMW seat it out a little as they bring more heat to the luxury SUV market.
