Carlisle Import & Performance Nationals

Mid-May extravaganza isn’t just about Japanese muscle. This year, there were plenty of supercars to drool over, too.

The Carlisle Import & Performance Nationals used to be all about, for the most part, Japanese machinery. But over the years, the show has evolved to encompass a wide variety of amazing cars. This year, the mid-May showcase celebrated Aston Martin and Jaguar specifically. But those legendary brands weren’t the only thing worth celebrating. In fact, we spotted a wide variety of exotic supercars as well.

A good portion of the 1,400 cars that showed up for the 2018 Carlisle Import & Performance Nationals reside on the upper end of the automotive echelon, in fact. There were plenty of Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and Porsches, of course. But we also spotted a very nice Ford GT and even an Ultima GTR. And when was the last time you saw one of those?

Of course, the car show was only a small piece of an event that has rapidly expanded over the years. A number of competitions pitted car and driver against each other, including carryover drifting and autocross events. 2018 also saw a host of new competitions, including drift limbo and a rolling exhaust event. Toss in a burnout contest and even low car limbo, and you’ve got the makings of a good time.

And if you got bored with all that (or tired of inhaling tire smoke), Building Y at the Carlisle Fairgrounds housed a conglomerate of rare and expensive supercars. Head over to Building T, and you were treated to concours-quality Astons and Jags. If all of that sounds like a great way to spend a mid-May weekend, you’ll be happy to know that planning for 2019 is already underway.
