The Audi R8 Goes Topless in NYC, and We Approve

Audi R8 Spyder

In awe, is how everyone reacted to Audi’s press conference at the 2016 New York International Auto Show. Understandably so, as Mr. Le Mans, Tom Kristensen, pulled the covers off the stunning Audi R8 Spyder.

They’ve done it again. The original Audi R8 was a game changer, a supercar that looked different, and didn’t borrow its design characteristics from anyone else. Audi spent nearly a decade bringing it from sketch, to concept, and eventually, to reality. And everyone loved it, especially the unique side blades.

Now the new generation R8 is upon us, and as stunning as it is, the Spyder version is even more so. All it takes is an up close look at all the details — the carbon fiber inserts around the engine cover, the mirror caps, the front air intakes, the interior — and you’ll be sold all over again. It’s an extravaganza of carbon fiber, alcantara, and fine leather. And what about that yellow?

The R8 Spyder was in good company, as four other (nearly) equally stunning R8s were present. Starting with the menacing R8 LMS race car, and then light blue metallic, forest green, and polar white R8 hardtops.

There aren’t many new cars I’m crazy about, but the Audi R8 Spyder has somehow sneaked its way into that small group!
