Acura NSX: The Most Interesting Modern Sports Car?
Matt Farah loves the Acura NSX. Here’s why you should, too.
When the first NSX launched at the dawn of the 1990s, it was a New Sportscar eXperience compared to something like a Ferrari or a Porsche. It was actually usable as a daily driver. It was comfortable, and the maintenance schedule was far less expensive too.
Since then, the original NSX blueprint has been followed time and again by a number of manufacturers. Over 25 years on, Honda/Acura had to come up with something else to make the new NSX feel, well, new. By that measure, they’ve seriously succeeded. The 2018 NSX is a hybrid monster of a sports car for the (relative) masses.
Having driven one of these ourselves, the NSX is a glorious car to drive in almost every circumstance. It sounds fantastic; as Matt says: “It is really a challenge to make a V6 sound good.” It also has excellent power delivery and manages traction quite well.
The car Matt drove is fitted with the optional sticky Pirelli Trofeo R tires. Our car had standard Continentals and we agree that even with the ostensibly ‘worse’ tire option, it has plenty of grip. This is a car that feels much more special than its price tag might suggest.

The new NSX, as Matt explains it, is only ‘video-gamey’ in its ability to feel like it breaks the laws of physics. Be sure to listen to Matt’s explanation of how the electric motors work to dive the car into tight corners, then dig to pull it out again. He can’t stop himself from saying nice things about this spectacular display of engineering and American build quality, and we can’t blame him. It’s an excellent car that punches above its weight class for comparatively little money.
Have you driven one? What’s your take?
