Partying in Style With a 2017 Rolls Royce Ghost Black Badge
If I told you that a few weekends ago, I got to party it up with a bunch of people and a 2017 Rolls Royce Ghost Black Badge, you’d immediately think I hung out with some ritzy friends, or I was an extra in a rap video. Well, not necessarily…
Actually, it couldn’t be further from what actually happened. Instead, I sat on the supple red leather backseat of a $400,000 dollar, murdered-out Rolls Royce Ghost along with my 5-year-old daughter, as we made our way to a bouncy house venue to celebrate her birthday with 20 other little kids. Regardless of what anyone tells you about how much or how little money an automotive journalist actually makes, it’s moments like this that make it all worth it.
I mean, how else would I come up with a vehicle that’s worth many times more than my own townhouse, right? But that’s besides the point. If you haven’t heard of a “Black Badge” Rolls, it’s because they’re not all that common. In fact, they’re pretty special, unlike those “regular” Rolls Royces. More importantly, this new Black Badge trim is Rolls’s answer to wealthy millennials that often want their vehicles to be more chic, more trendy, more Instagram-worthy.
So, what do you get for the price of a base Ferrari 488 and a Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG? A massive sedan that’s fit for a queen, blacked-out chrome, carbon and aluminum 22-inch wheels worth $6,000 each, hundreds of choices of cow hides for the interior, and a stupidly cool LED-clad suede headliner with shooting stars and all. No, I’m not kidding.
If that doesn’t make you go, “Wow, what a deal!” then you’ll be happy to know that the Black Badge’s massive 6.6-liter V12 engine also gets an extra bump in horsepower, for a total of 603. Is that enough for you, kind Sir or Madame?
While cruising around in such a behemoth is pretty darn awesome, you’ll quickly have to get used to people staring at you all the time. Much like my experience with the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider, you’ll have learn to parallel park with everyone staring at you, to answer everyone’s questions about the car before making it from the vehicle to your actual destination, and learn to always worry if something is messing with your car. Still, If I had the money I’d grab me a Black Edition, but mine would be a Wraith.
