2014 Jaguar F-Type Thoroughly Cures Wintertime Blues
YouTuber heads to Miami, finds stellar F-Type convertible and comes away impressed with its easy road manners and satisfying performance.
Ever since its debut, the Jaguar F-Type has earned considerable accolades. Critics previously hailed its ability to deftly maneuver through Southern California. Additionally, the coupe received extremely positive press in the U.K., its home country. An upcoming refresh promises to deliver even more thrills for the foreseeable future.
Of course there are plenty of pre-owned examples out there too, just waiting for their next owner. As a salve for dealing with Ohio winters, the proprietor of the EatSleepDrive YouTube channel traveled to Miami to experience a base Jaguar F-Type convertible. He basically finds the coupe to be a perfect companion for the trip due to its versatile driving dynamics.
An Extremely Likable F-Type
As he tangled with Miami traffic, the influencer very much enjoyed his time behind the wheel of the F-Type. He found the coupe to be a great daily driver. Beyond that, he also felt it properly delivered good performance when requested. “This car in general and also this transmission more specifically has a nice sort of dual personality. Like, I can do the chill Miami thing and just sort of cruise around the road in automatic and the shifts are very smooth and very silky,” says the YouTuber. Additionally, he liked how he could make the transmission shift quicker when in sport mode.
With regard to how the Jaguar behaves in a city like Miami, the influencer thinks it’s the perfect vehicle for the region. “It’s kind of like the perfect car for Miami I think, really. Because you can have a fast car but you’re not really going to go anywhere because you’re always in traffic. You can have a really good handling car but all the roads are straight and there’s not really any curvy roads, so…what more do you want,” he says. As an all-around cruiser, the base F-Type really shines for those not taking their Jaguars to the track, which is most people. It handles everyday driving with aplomb but fulfills a performance need if desired, which is demonstrated when he is somewhat forced to pass a truck because his lane was ending. The Jaguar ended up handling that task with ease while avoiding cutting the other vehicle off.
Minor Quibbles
His time with the Jaguar seemed well spent but he did have some issues with it. The F-Type’s steering-feel disappointed him. “It’s fairly direct and the turn-in is pretty quick and stuff like that. But when you’re in a corner loaded up you don’t really know what the tires are doing. Like you’re not really getting a lot of feedback. And that’s a real let down for me with this car,” he says. Of course, he did sample a trim designed to cast a wide net. And his opinions on the steering ironically reinforce and support his assertion that the base F-Type is a competent and capable grand touring car.
As for interior considerations, he found it to be made of very good quality parts. Although he did find the car to shun the passenger in terms of ergonomics. Ultimately, the Youtuber is not sure the car is for him but highly recommends it for people living in a city like Miami. “Wonderful car. Perfect for this setting. If you live in a place where you can just put the top down and cruise but you want to get on it every now and then I say go for it,” says the influencer.
