Koenigsegg CCXR Special Edition

One of only two CCXR Special Editions ever built…and now it’s no more. Which makes us wonder: Why do bad things happen to good cars?

Let’s start with a moment of silence. Okay, this is going to hurt. A $1.5 million dollar Koenigsegg CCXR Special Edition custom supercar was recently reduced to rubble. The car was in an accident in Mexico City, and as a result the body, front right fender, front and rear tires, and axles were severely damaged.  We’re not sure if this once-beautiful car is headed to the scrap heap or the body shop.

According to The Daily Mail, the Koenigsegg was custom built for in 2009 for the Al-Thani royal family of Qatar. It was subsequently sold in 2018 to a collector and racer in Mexico for $1.5 million. The new owner goes by the name don_koenigsegg on Instagram, who shared many pics of his hot whip to his over 52K followers.

We’re hoping, given don_koenigsegg’s resources and obvious dedication to his car, that the Koenigsegg will be restored to its former glory. Regardless, it is painful to see this stunning and rare car so trashed.
