Up In The Air?

Up In The Air?
Any other road warriors out there? I travel domestically and internationally between 250-300 days/year (over the last 5-6 years). I generally fly United as many of my destinations are United hubs. Since United changed to complimentary upgrade requests for elite members, I've been very lucky getting bumps to first class. Anyone else share my good fortune (or occasional misery)?
FWIW, I'm a United/Marriott/Hertz guy. I've got close to 400K United miles, over 100K Hertz points, and over 100K Marriott points. Saving them for the big Euro vacation (or possibly to Australia/New Zealand).

In all seriousness, that sounds awesome. 6 or 7 years ago, I would have jumped at a job that had me traveling like that. Obviously I'm loving every second of building up Speedriven with the guys here, so there's no regrets, but I like to think I would have torn up half the country and still had some left in the expense account in my young days.
Enjoy it!

Couldn't do it. No way. There is an fchat thread with guys talking about being in the million plus mile club etc. That group seems to think every airline has dumped any kind of service they ever had and they are all pretty upset.
Good to hear United is treating you good but damn 300 days a year. That's incredible.

Because I fly out of Seattle and Alaska has lots of partners, I try to focus all my flights on them or their partners. They are very good at bumping you up front but their partners not so much.
I switched to Starwood from Marriott a few years back because they have (had) a more aggressive points program. I really like staying at the Element Property's, very nice and normally under $100 a night. That makes the boss happy.
Overall the best point program and rewards I found was Amex. At one point I had close to a million Amex points. I planned a trip to europe all on Amex points then 911 happened. Their travel desk booked everything, air/hotels/rental cars/train passes, everything. When I canceled I expected it to be a pain in the ass and expensive. Nope a 5 min call to Amex and a $20 processing fee was all it took to cancel my entire trip and credit all my points back to my account. Best award experience ever.

They are correct, you used to be treated like a king once you hit a certain level of points, no so much anymore.
