Uber Is Offering McLaren P1 Rides in NYC This Week
If you live in New York City (Manhattan, specifically) and you’re a nerd, into cars, like expensive things, or even if you just like surprises, you’re going to love what Uber has to offer this week. From Tuesday, October 27 through Friday, October 30, if you enter the promotion code “BREAKTHROUGH,” your Uber will show up as a free ride in a luxury alternative-energy vehicle.
This is all thanks to and leading up to the November 1 premiere episode of a new National Geographic Channel show.  Breakthrough is a series shot by legendary actors and directors Angela Bassett, Peter Berg, Paul Giamatti, Akiva Goldsman, Ron Howard, and Brett Ratner. It’ll focus on “scientific innovations in water, pandemics, cyborg technology, energy, longevity, and brain science,” which all sounds pretty fantastic. Like we said, nerds welcome here.
So what cars are included as alt-energy luxury? Well, most notably, and the main reason we’re posting this is the million-dollar McLaren P1 hybrid. It’s obviously not always going to be available, but if you’re lucky, that’d make for one hell of a carpool. Others include the Lexus CTh, Porsche Cayenne Biodiesel, Tesla Model S, Hyundai Tucson Hydrogen Fuel Cell, Lexus RX Hybrid, BMW i3, or a “Solar Prototype.” See the connection?
