This Deserves Its Own Thread - What 9/1000s Looks Like At F1 Speed

Rangieboy17 already posted this in the Korean GP Banter thread but I felt it needed its own thread for all to see.

When I saw this split screen analysis during the live BBC broadcast, I could not believe my eyes.

How did Vettel steal that pole position from Button who lead all but the final chicane!?

This is a must see for anyone even remotely interested in motor sports and underscores the supremacy of Formula 1.

The Doctor 10-13-2011 02:54 PM

Amazing example of how a different line can save so much time.

samuel.g 10-13-2011 02:59 PM

Damn that was crazy to watch, never thought the gear shifts would be so identical. Must spread rep.

Redlinerobert 10-13-2011 03:35 PM

THAT was amazing to watch. These guys are like surgeons.

bonehead 10-13-2011 03:40 PM

Absolutely sick.

J@WB 10-13-2011 03:52 PM

very cool! that is just insane

McRae 10-13-2011 03:58 PM

this also belongs in THE AWESOME THREAD ;)

Alzilla 10-13-2011 04:58 PM

I have a hard time imagining going that fast.

smy266 10-13-2011 05:20 PM

Vettel is definitely the king of qualifying.

h20skier 10-13-2011 05:25 PM

This is also why many don't like F1. Too close in my book. Amazing speeds oh ya. Just a touch boring to watch.

Winchm60 10-13-2011 06:18 PM

That was awesome!

What do you want, strippers to pop up on the hood and get decapitated?

You are SOOOOOOO hard to please!

Speed888 10-13-2011 07:11 PM

no offense I think its boring to those who aren't as calculated mentally then those who watch nascar.

F1 is - if you blink, you missed it. Its way too intense for many.

now, get me a sammich! :p

mafishman1 10-13-2011 08:10 PM

Why can't I see it? :(

Edit: ok it works now. Browser decided to suck.

Maximilian 10-13-2011 08:19 PM

NASCAR? You are grouping me into NASCAR .? The worst racing ever.

F1 is too easy. Sorry fellas it's about the team with the most money. Always will be. The top cars are best all the time and the rest shmagma cheese.

Are the drivers fantastic yes. Are the cars the best made yes. Is it too predictable yes

Stop pie get that hooker next to you to get up. Grab 85 cents off the nightstand and walk the 150ft to the vending machine in that cheap ass hotel and have her buy you a SAMMICH bitch ;)

I love road racing of all kinds except kart.

F1 cars are amazing don't get me wrong but........

All these guys like Dana who watch it all of the time understand the drivers and their strengths. In turn they can choose most likely who will win and where, qualifying no different. These guys are good. Almost too good.

Throw a bunch of touring cars on a track and watch the carnage happen. From vW's to 911's it's all exciting.

That's my thought on motorsport on pavement. I'd much rather watch rally over all of it honestly

smy266 10-13-2011 10:24 PM

Well not counting this season Mark, there's usually about 6 different drivers battling for the win just because they're in the top teams. It makes it exciting

RFFG 10-14-2011 12:34 PM

wow, that is insane!

Agreed. Even with all the changes they've tried to implement, it's still slot car racing. I still watch it, but F1 is going to continue to bleed audience until they fix some of the real problems with the sport.

Superfly 10-15-2011 12:16 AM

Man, that's one of the best side by side vids I've seen. Thanks for putting it up here, I'd have missed it otherwise.

VKING 10-15-2011 12:23 AM

Damm close. That's a great example of why F1 is the best racing on the planet!

Ogaleicrum 10-15-2011 09:36 AM

Jenson Button has to be the smoothest pilot in the grid.

He does no corrections just draws a line and sticks to it perfectly.

E36-RAT 10-16-2011 09:45 PM

Thats why they get the big bucks, absolutely incredible driving!

The car was designed the previous year by Honda with megabucks. Brawn just lucked into having an incredibly good car handed to them.

B4rad 10-18-2011 01:14 AM

Thanks for posting this Dana, I wrote an article on it which currently had over 54,000 views on it! So that equals more than $110 at the moment.

Check it out! Video: What 9 Thousandths of a Second Looks Like At F1 Speed

They didn't hand him a trick diffuser.

That's why they won.

That may be the case. But people assume that Brawn did everything on a shoestring and last minute, which obviously wasn't the case.

M-Individual 10-18-2011 11:49 AM

that is pretty amazing to watch.

Must spread rep.

To add to what you're saying:
As everything becomes more standardized the racing becomes less interesting. It is hard to argue against standardization of the cars, but when it comes down to it almost every rule the FIA implements makes racing just a bit less interesting to watch. WRC has suffered a similar fate IMO.

So what racing series to you think is best?
