Aston Martin Racing's new Le Mans car! http://cdn.images.autocar.co.uk/612x...61600x1060.jpg Aston Martin Racing has unveiled its new Le Mans challenger, the LMP1. The racer gets a bespoke six-cylinder, direct injection, intercooled, turbocharged petrol engine mated to a six-speed semi automatic pneumatic shift ‘box, which is bolted to a carbon fibre chassis designed and manufactured by the company. Features of the Aston Martin Racing LMP1 include an open cockpit and, in line with new regulations for 2011, a new blade-fin. A total of six AMR-Ones will be built with its driver line-up including Brits, Darren Turner – driving car number 007 - and Andy Meyrick – 009. According to team principal George Howard-Chappell: “We have chosen to run with a six cylinder turbocharged engine because we believe this offers the best potential within the petrol engine regulations. With the ACO’s commitment to effectively balance the performance of petrol and diesel Le Mans entrants – our hopes are high that we’ll see the closest racing yet in the premiere LMP1 category.” http://cdn.images.autocar.co.uk/612x...31600x1060.jpg http://cdn.images.autocar.co.uk/612x...11600x1060.jpg http://cdn.images.autocar.co.uk/612x...11600x1060.jpg http://cdn.images.autocar.co.uk/612x...01600x1060.jpg http://cdn.images.autocar.co.uk/612x...11600x1060.jpg |
:wow2: That looks amazing!!! |
I know its a race car, and therefore form follows function. However in my honest opinion, that thing is pretty damn ugly. I wonder why they went the open cockpit route. I also understand the new regulations affected design, but I expected more from Aston. Here's what they are replacing: http://www.ausmotive.com/images/Asto...in-LMP1-28.jpg |

However I do give AM props for doing a current LeMans car completely in house! |
I agree with The JC. Last year's car was muuuuuch better looking. |
The 2009-10 Lola Aston Martin B09/60 LMP1 car was one of the best looking cars in the world - and one of my personal favorites. I loved the colors, body lines, and closed cockpit. The only thing I like about the new AMR-One P1 car is the led headlights, and engine. This is proper Le Mans prototype racer. Love it! http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3566/...4b6b2531_o.jpg |
what's not to love?! color included... |

^^ Yeah, R15 is sick. Seen it in person a couple times. Can't wait to see the new R18. |
Anything that wears Gulf Racing Livery is A-OK with me! |
