I heard from my contact at the local BMW dealership that BMW is only making 800 1Ms for the world. Anyone know if this is true? |

I'd love to have one. |
I always liked the 1 series. No lie. A dealer did something amazing when I was just looking at them and changed one of their deliveries to exactly how I wanted it. It was amazing to see happen. I like the 1M too. I like 6 speeds and I have no problem driving it. For a daily though I feel I am in the minority that is of the thought that a DCT would be fine. But it is fantastic that they a doing what they are. |
Limited production + dealer mark up = it will be easier to buy an M3, probably for the same price too. I liked this car too. |

It will be larger than that - expect (I think) 2,000 to 3,000. More on par with the CSL's production numbers. |
i thought they stated it wasn't going to be limited? so black, white, or that hideous orange huh? |
It's going to be a lower volume M car. Christ, I think the E60 M5 sold roughly 20,000 units so anything less than that is low volume. I think it's going to be more rare than the current M3 - or it will be for a year or two its in production. BMW is probably trying to curb potential depreciation on these cars so volume is low. As for US figures, my best guess is that only 800 could come to the US which is in-line with low production figures. At least for the first year of production. That said, I'm guessing the lines are already pretty long at dealers for this car so I could see production being bumped up. After all, their development costs were kept to a minimum relative to other M cars - why not enjoy boosted sales if you're running a potentially slim profit margin? |
