The yacht of all yachts!

I just had to post these recent pictures that I found of the Eclipse, it is just ridiculous!

Definetely not the most estethic (far from) but my god it's HUGE! You barely notice the people standing on deck. I wounder how his next yacht will look like, talk about hybris..

Bigger isnt always better, that thing does not look very relaxing

Mythic 03-17-2011 06:51 PM

Isn't it supposed to have anti-paparazzi technology?

That said, my favorite yacht is still the Wally 118.

MeanMachine 03-17-2011 06:52 PM

nice place to play hide and seek :)

Barrister 03-17-2011 06:53 PM

I read somewhere that the yacht in question costs about $200,000 in maintenance a month - whether you use it or not.

Mythic 03-17-2011 07:01 PM

I think its considerably more Dana.

They usual running costs are about 10% of the purchase price annually.

I agree.

What I read was that $200,000 is the bare minimum - if you don't use it at all.

Doesn't the owner employ a staff of about 40 people full-time just to wait until he wants to take it out??

MeanMachine 03-17-2011 07:03 PM

10% of price for maintenance.

All superyachts of this caliber have a full time staff.

Friends of mine work aboard alot of the bigger ones. They'll go to port ( to say St Tropez ) and all go around the hottest clubs to hold positions/ tables at clubs incase the owner feels like partying. If not, they'll come back to ship.

In addition to the crew, there is the docking fees of about approximately 50-75k every month.

Barrister 03-17-2011 07:13 PM

Oh well.

I guess it's cool if it "floats his boat."

Ha Ha Ha! I am killing it today with the puns.

I read that the final cost was around 1 billion(!)USD which means that the maintance is around 100 million USD..

A bit more than 200k, hehe!

vtgts300kw 03-17-2011 07:17 PM

And don't forget it'll cost over a million dollars to fill it up.

slord 03-17-2011 07:17 PM

This may be the biggest, but really just looks like an oversized 'normal' yacht. I'd would much prefer the Phillipe Starck designedA. Even the Wally 118 over this.

Or some fly via private jet or car, arrive early and wait in the cafe's for their yachts to arrive ie Portofino or PortoCervo because yachts these size takes a longer time to arrive due to the slower cruising speed.

Wally is more of a pleasure yacht, this thing is "home" on the sea.

Axxlrod 03-17-2011 07:19 PM

Who's the owner of this cruise ship?

vtgts300kw 03-17-2011 07:19 PM

That would very rarely happen. If the owner arrives and the yacht isn't there, he's gonna be pissed.

Admiral Abramovich axxlrod.

Yeah. I don't know shit about yachts.

Maybe it was $200,000 a day. I don't know.

It was something shocking though.

I know but some arrive a bit early to lose time "shopping", have lunch and so on. Their car is parked with their luggage somewhere not far until their yacht arrives.

Or some might land their helicopter to go horseback riding or Polo, such as the likes in Saint-Tropez and PortoCervo.

Valid point, but you would think he would have it designed well. To each his own I suppose.

MeanMachine 03-17-2011 07:25 PM

It looks great, Wally is something else its designed very futuristic. With these larger yachts its hard to implement the wally design it would look funny.

The largest sportiest yacht I've seen is a 165 Mangusta.

Roman Abramovich.

He has a few other tiny boats as well, the Pelorus is one of them. I dont know why he keeps it, he cant even have guests on it, only 377 foot. But it's good looking though!

http://www.luxuo.com/wp-content/uplo...orus-yacht.jpg

MeanMachine 03-17-2011 07:37 PM

I saw Roman's yacht two years ago, he couldnt get it in the marina of Saint-Tropez because its too big. He keeps it out and goes to the marina via tender.

Btw, mythic the wally boat by hermes hasnt been built yet from what i know; its just collaboration because wally wants to expand for larger yachts.

Yep you are getting there, 100 mill in a year is $273.000 a day. Crazy!

VegasFloyd 03-17-2011 07:44 PM

I would demand naked supermodels on at least 3 out of 5 decks for that kind of money.

Whats the expected completion date or are the just building a hull and storing it until it gets ordered?

vtgts300kw 03-17-2011 07:54 PM

That's CGi.

slord 03-17-2011 09:38 PM

If they build the WHY that would be awesome.

Ced 03-17-2011 09:50 PM

To me the Maltese falcon's still the best looking out there.

Some people with yachts this large have the likes of a Wally 118 as a tender probably, I know a couple of people who have Leopard & Mangusta yachts as tenders to arrive earlier to their destination.

The Yacht scene is amazing, my favourite brands are Riva, SanLorenzo, Oceano and Wally.

Zorro 03-18-2011 11:25 AM

No love for Feadship? Come on now! :)
