Toyota Land Cruiser - Who's Had One?

So I have four kids, two dogs, and a bunch of my kids' friends usually in tow. We also hunt, wakeboard, play and coach soccer, etc. Which means we usually have a lot of gear in tow as well.

I'm on my 7th Suburban, but I'm itching for something different. It needs to be 4wd, it still needs 3 rows of seats, but the third row can be a fold-up occassional row, as the oldest daughter is 19 now and rarely rides with us anyway.

I've been eyeing, at tblackj's suggestion, a new 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser. They look great, interior looks awesome, and it actually seats more than my Suburban (8 vs. 7), although the third row is flat below the seat so no real room for adults, or anyone for long distance. Anyone have any experience with, or ownership of, one? And if so, what do you think?

The Toyota is a good choice. I have been thinking of getting a Diesel as a DD when I get back home.
Its a great all rounder

Thanks Jab. One of the things that is compelling for me, is that the people who have them love them. This would definitely be a DD for me, and they sure have gotten a lot nicer over the years.

I had a 1997 Land Cruiser and an LX470 both have been sold and I think I am going back to Toyota again and as you have said they did get nicer over the years

My ex-gf had her mom's LC all the time.

it was great - although not for the reasons you would really appreciate.

Seriously though - it was the equivalent of a lay-z-boy: Big, Comfy, Smooth and anyone could park their ass in one.

Go for it if you really need the room!

4.7L Twin turbo diesel, I've got a buddy who just got one and its well worth the price and is quiet fast. The good thing is that they are much more stable when compared to the previous generation, its not cayenne sports car handling but there is a substantial improvment.

Russ, dont hesitate in getting it its well worth its price and has good resale value over here. You are lucky because your marketing strategies are way better than ours, they dont bring the 5.7l 380hp engine for the toyota landcruiser and if you do want it you need to pay the premium and get the lexus which has that engine.
