I'm buying a Garage (comes with house) - advice on Racedeck please
 

Hi Everyone,

After spending nearly the last 20 years in either Chicago, NYC and Boston, we are buying a house. We found a wonderful home in Cambridge MA with a beautiful view of Fresh Pond and a golf course all on preservation land. We'll be just 6 miles from Fenway and the rest of Boston. We close 3/31 and will do about a month's work on the interior before moving in.

Aside from the desire to get away from city condo living, I have long wanted a private garage. While I was hoping for a three car, this house has a good size 2 car garage. I believe that I could lengthen the garage one day by about 8 feet and make it a 4 car tandem,....but for now it will house my TT and my wife's Cayenne. The Boxster will find a home out in front of the house behind a fence where it will not be visible to any neighbors or the street! I'm thinking it would like its own brick spot.

Anyhow,.....my new garage is in need of a serious makeover! I am thinking about either doing an epoxy floor or going with the Griot's garage floor paint in gray. I am also very likely to go with a Racedeck in some cool pattern to be determined. Does anyone have experience with the flow-through tiles versus the regular kind? I am worried that the flow through tiles will not do well with a floor jack and rolling equipment. Anyone have experience???

I'm also thinking about something similar to the California Closets set up shown below.

I'm soooooo happy to be getting a garage! I have all sorts of Porsche posters, flags, banners and PSDS certificates that I can't wait to hang!

Congrats, on the garage (and the home)! I was contemplating the same thing but the more I thought about it the more i realized that a painted floor (matching your walls) is easier to clean, sweep, and least expensive. I just left mine alone and I probably won't mess with it. :yup:

I agree those cabinets look Porsche Design! Hopefully the pricing on them is not the same.

I think a well-done epoxy floor is your best bet. Consider you're going to be bringing snow, grit, salt, etc. in the nasty months... Hose it out, start over.

Also, it'll make matching easier when you expand your garage.

Good points Chris. Funny thing is that my wife really likes the checkerboard style garage floor,...who am I to say no to that? We'll see...it's still a few months away.

Congrats on your purchase. Don't forget to rep TS in your new garage. It will make your car instantly faster and better!!!!

Those are air-powered tools on the cabinets. Are you thinking about doing the same route with air powered tools as well?

Another idea is to lay a vinyl cover (checkerboard pattern) and then do clear epoxy over it (like the logos on NBA courts). If you're going to do it, do it properly...

Congrats on the new house purchase! Do you have any more shots of the house? The observation tower looks really nice!
