Do you mean songs in iTunes or photos in iPhoto?

Right click on it and delete should do the trick. Or selecting and hitting the delete key on the keyboard.

Are you dragging to OSX trash on the dock, or the trash can in iPhoto? Cause you need to drag them to the trashcan in iPhoto if you arn't already.

Can't you open the finder... go to pictures... then drag them to the trash?

There is a 'Trash' listed under the 'Recent' list on the left hadn side. Drag photos there. I also believe you can command+delete pictures and they go there. Then right click on 'Trash' and choose 'empty trash' and they should be gone.

edit: hope this is still true on the newest versions of iphoto, as I haven't been updating.

No, iPhoto catalogs its photos in its own library that is more or less unnavigable without using iPhoto.

Last time I messed with it (a few versions ago) it was organized by a date structure and not by the album structure. It had a lot of links within the file structure that made it difficult to decipher which photos were which. Has it gotten better since?
