Need help with Bootcamp and Windows XP!

Let's me start by saying I'm completely computer illiterate, so please keep any terminology simple

Just installed Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.6 today. I bought it specifically so I could run Bootcamp. I actually have XP installed via a trial of VMware Fusion already, but since I wanted to upgrade to SL, I figured I would use Bootcamp instead and not have to pay for the license to purchase VMware.

So, I partitioned my drive as instructed and proceeded to try to install Windows.

Going thru the steps on Bootcamp assistant, it asks you to download "Windows support software" onto a CD or DVD. I click ok, put in an empty CD and press BURN....nothing. Went back and tried it again about 10 times and still the same result.

Reading conflicting info on the interwebz about this. One suggestion was to just install Windows as the support software should already be installed with SL. So...tried that. I made a bootable CD with Windows XP Pro slipstreamed with SP2 (and I know this works because I was able to install XP onto this same laptop via VMware Fusion). I inserted the disc, selected the option that says I would like to install Windows, only for the computer to shut down after a few seconds and eject the disc.

WTF?!?! Really frustrated with this computer right now. Any help would be appreciated.

Of course, you know that Simba is the guy to chat with about this.

Homeboy knows all there is to know about Apple stuff.

I think he is secretly Steve Jobs.

Purchase Parallels Desktop 6 and connect your PC to your Apple with the enclosed USB cable follow the prompts and your problems will be solved. I did and it's a great way to allow your MAC to be a PC. No bootcamp needed. I bought it at BestBuy for $79 a few weeks ago. It was on sale so I don't know if it still is. I was just cruising the isles for a game for my son's PS3 and ran into a friend that told me about it. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the rec, but I'm already able to run Windows on my Mac with a trial version of VMware Fusion. I purposely bought Snow Leopard to kill two birds with one stone: be able to run Windows via Bootcamp without having to buy the license to VMware and to upgrade the operating system.

Also, I've heard some not so good things about Parallels (horrible support).

Although Snow Leopard was only $30, it still pisses me off that the primary reason I purchased it for doesn't even work.

Yes, I'm hoping he chimes in here. But thought I'd throw it out to the peanut gallery in case someone else had a fix for me.

I had some reward points that are going to expire the end of the month so I ended up buying Prey 2. He loves it. But only 3 hours a week on the PS3. New rule my wife issued last week. Oh and BTW I haven't told anyone either...
