What do you need? My Graves bike has the YEC kit ECU. I can always ask the guys at Graves if I don't have an answer for you.

 

Nice! Thanks Ara. Here are my questions:

1. The yec ecu (for a 05 R1) is used and may have fueling parameters already set on it. I'd like to "zero" the ecu so that I can continue to use my PCIII which already has a custom map for my modifications (full exhaust..etc). Can you walk me through clearing the existing maps and setting them back to the generic superstock map?

2. I will be using the yec ecu on a street bike (I'm fine with losing my odo and speedo). How can I confirm that the ecu is running in superstock mode and not superbike mode? Does it default to superstock mode when the yec wiring harness is not used?

3. Do you have the software cd that came with the ecu? I'd love to have a copy of it if you don't mind making one (I'll cover all the costs involved).

Why would you run a PCIII if you have a new ECU?

(I don't know what a YEC is I confess, but it sounds like a programmable aftermarket ECU)

 

You're correct. The intended purpose is to have a ecu that allows for timing changes, fueling changes, engine braking control, and a quickshifter without a PCIII or additional add ons (weight savings). The YEC ecu is Yamaha's in-house race kit (think HRC for Honda).

The YEC from that year is not as fine tuneable fueling wise as a PCIII. Plus, finding a tuner who knows how to tune it is a whole other project within itself. PCIII tuners can be found in nearly every state.

That said, the yec ecu does de-restrict some things and provides a good foundation if I choose to do internal engine changes down the road.

 

Aaah...might try seeing if there's a Power Commander emulation mode for it. My TuneEdit for does that, which is great for shops that make custom tunes.

 

Great idea but no dice with the PCIII.
