Are clip style chain master links that bad?

So I had a small toolbox with some various motorcycle tools stolen, including my nice chain breaking/riveting tool. Not being a believer in buying cheap tools, not wanting to spend ~$200 on another one, and needing to change my chain now brings me to a certain crossroad. Should I wait, buy a new tool, and buy a chain with a riveted master link like I always have, or should I go with a clip style now (which I've always been nervous about). I've heard that there's no reason to worry about a clip link if it's installed properly (with safety wire and silicone).

Thoughts?

I dunno about road bikes but I've never had one come off in years of off-road duties on ATVs and dirtbikes ...

Riveted is the way to go. The drivetrain is one place you don't want to skimp out on. Besides, it will be worth it to now have to worry about it each time you ride.

Any shop can do it. If you have a good reputation with a shop, a lot of times they will let you borrow one for the job.

I see you're in FL. Have you posted up on any forums asking to borrow a tool? I know there are a bunch of good guys over on www.r1-forum.com that would be willing to help you out (let me know if you want me to refer you to a few members).
