I decided to not be a jackass and buy a big bike to learn on. You have no idea how hard that is for me. So that leaves me deciding on a bike that's suitable. So far I'm thinking an 08 Ninja 250, only thing is I'm about 6'2 and I've heard I might need a bigger bike. Any thoughts?

I'm totally bitten by this bug. You should see the change in my photo library now, gradually more and more bike pics. There must be a thousand pics jsut between the Agustas and this black Monster. Help!

 

I would recommend buying something used to start off with. There are tons of used 500s that people use to learn on and then sell for approximatley what they bought them for.

After that, it depends on what you hope to accomplish as a rider. If your goal is to be fast on the track, I would recommend a 600. You will learn to carry speed through turns and the power delivery is manageable.

If you hope just to casually street ride, you can go the cruiser or sportbike route. I see that you mentioned a Ninja 250, so I'll assume you want to get a sport bike. If your goal with a sportbike is to stunt, drag race, etc., you can probably get anything you want. I'm not into this scene so I'll defer on giving you advice.

I'm not sure if you have canyons where you live, but if you hope to ride the canyons, my advice regarding a 600 would apply.

I'm into sport bikes, not many canyons but there are a lot of nice twisty roads around. I'd be in it mostly for casual street and taking nice rides through the twisties really. Not into stunting at all. I was thinking a 500 but then I get thinking that if I'm getting a 500 I might as well get a 600. I'd love to get a Ducati sport bike and I'm sure I'll end up on a track eventually.

 

Go for the 600. There are plenty of used R6's, ZX6's, 636R's, and GSXR600's out there. You will be bored with the 500 within 2 seasons if you're serious about riding.

 

I agree with Ag. A 600, IMO, is a perfect starter bike. And, to be honest, I prefer a 600 for a DD bike. I started on a CBR600F4i and I loved it. Then, when you feel more comfortable and are ready, you can move to alot bigger bike.
