Apple secretly tracking you iPhone.... Interesting article and app to say the least. News Headlines and the software to see where your phone has been. petewarden/iPhoneTracker @ GitHub |
I'm curious to hear what Apples response is to this. |
why would this surprise anyone? |
Wtf!!!!! |
This is not new and the information is not being sent to Apple. It is just stored on your phone/home computer. 3 Major Issues with the Latest iPhone Tracking “Discovery” | Alex Levinson |
"Apple" isn't tracking anything. The phone is keeping a log of coordinates which are synced to your computer. Apple never sees said log. If you're especially paranoid, turn on encrypted backups in your iTunes settings and/or turn off location services on the phone. |
I donīt care if they track my iphone, thatīs ok, just as long as they donīt use the camera in the bedroom  |

that would be kind of fun to do to others. |
Downloaded the app. Kinda cool. Please don't stalk me  |
could be an issue if you get subpoenaed for some reason - most people won't realize the phone is doing this - chuck |

most people won't realize the phone is doing this I realize that this was "known" amongst some circles. However, those same people probably represent 5% of the iPhone population, and already know how to secure things. I do have one question, if Apple is not collecting this data (which I believe that the are not), then why does this functionality exist in the first place. Not to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but you have to admit it does seem odd. |
exactly ambleZ06 - google, yahoo, apple, msft, you name it - they're all getting away w/ murder on privacy & data collection - and it's gonna take something very serious to enact the change that's needed. corporations shouldn't get a pass for obscuring what they do. if the govt were doing something similar, people would be up in arms; when a corporation does it, it's "but you use their products knowing this." there has to be real reform; if not an internet bill of rights, so to speak, for data collection, retention, & use. and then there's the whole kids angle to this - not good. - chuck |
Not sure why this is surprising..... I knowingly let it track/geo tag to see where I've been :) |
