Unique Gathering of Porsche 911 Examples Marks 55 Years
From April 28 through the end of 2019, Oregon’s World of Speed museum will be filled with special Porsche 911 examples.
If there’s one thing worth celebrating in life, it’s the Porsche 911. And now that we’re wrapping up the final days of Porsche’s 70th anniversary, it’s time to look forward to their iconic sports car’s 55th year of existence. There are bound to be a number of celebrations in the coming year, without a doubt. But a special exhibit put on by the World of Speed Automotive Museum in Wilsonville, Oregon, next spring looks like it’s worth marking on the calendar.
The exhibit, dubbed Porsche 911: 55 Years of Driving Excellence, kicks off on April 28. The goal of this special gathering is to simply celebrate one of the automotive world’s most enduring icons. To do that, World of Speed has gathered a specially curated list of unique and rare Porsche 911 examples that it intends to have on display through the end of 2019. And from the small sampling they’ve shared with us thus far, it looks like it’ll be worth the wait.
There are plenty of air-cooled cars to drool over, of course. And the exhibit isn’t just limited to road-going cars, as plenty of racing machines are marked for a visit. Early examples include a 1967 911 S, 1979 Momo 935, and the Brumos 935 #0028 race car. A 1982 911 SC Racer, 1988 Turbo Targa, and 1988 930 S Cabriolet join those special rides.
World of Speed isn’t ignoring newer 911s, either. They’re planning on having the 997 GT3 RSR Flying Lizard on display. Along with a 2012 GT3 RS4 and 2016 911 R. A pretty diverse lineup, indeed. And these are just the cars that they’ve confirmed thus far. You can bet that by April, this list will have expanded considerably. All of which makes this one exhibit that promises to be worth the trip!
