Twin Turbo, Porsche Powered, and Definetely Not Your Ordinary VW Bus

Some things are baffling to watch, and this VW bus is no exception. Never known for speed, swiftness, or celerity of any kind, watching this “Race-Taxi” passing mid-engined Ferraris is a wonderful, albeit very strange, thing.

This bus was the result of five years worth of labor. It uses a tuned, twin-turbo flat-six from a 993 Porsche, which produces 578 horsepower. A completely-revised suspension and bigger brakes are obviously part of the equation of speed too. You can tell there’s a whole lot of additional changes under the skin as well, with rear windows converted into NACA-style ducts to feed air to the monster engine.

The video of this creation was taken at the Monza racing circuit in Italy, during a charity event for disabled persons. The uploader was able to discover that it had been built by a Swiss man named Fred Bernhard. To labor for years on a creation and then share that enjoyment for charity is something we certainly stand behind. So here’s one to you, Mr. Bernhard.
