Triumph GT-6: Rare Ride Transformed by Restomod Flair
The Triumph GT-6 is a rare car currently skyrocketing in value. Thus, this might be the only restomod you’ll ever see.
When you think of restomods, you probably envision classic muscle cars fitted with fuel-injected engines, big wheels, and sticky tires. Cars equipped with suspension bits that didn’t even exist in their time. What you probably never envisioned, of course, was something like this 1973 Triumph GT-6 restomod, an interesting mix of old and new we recently came across at The Classic Car Network.
Upgrading a classic Triumph to look, drive, and perform like a modern sports car is indeed a unique concept. But choosing a GT-6 as your basis for this kind of build is even more ambitious. These are inherently rare cars, with prices steadily on the rise. So we doubt you’ll ever see anything like this highly modified, top notch Triumph anywhere else.
Even better, no corners were cut in this frame off job that now sports a very high quality paint job. Every bit of the interior is brand new as well, custom stitched in supple leather. But all of that also covers up what is essentially the best-performing Triumph GT-6 out there. For starters, the entire suspension was upgraded with poly bushings, adjustable Spax shocks, and new springs. Tasteful retro Enkei wheels wrapped in Yokohama rubber also hide upgraded brakes with 4-piston calipers.
To give this pint-sized sports car a little more oomph, the original engine was rebuilt and fitted with a lumpy cam and aftermarket fuel-injection setup. A rebuilt transmission and rear end deliver all that extra power to the rear wheels, and there’s even a new cooling system to keep it all under control.
Obviously, a car as specialized as this Triumph appeals to a pretty limited crowd. But if you’re a fan of the venerable GT-6 and don’t mind owning one built to a higher standard than the original, this car was tailor made for you!
