Survey: Bad Parking Manners Annoy British Motorists

Parking in handicap spaces without a disability placard tops on list of bad manners by British parking app YourParkingSpace.

What’s one of the most challenging things about driving? The parking. Whether you have a Ferrari, a McLaren, or a Porsche, you’ll have to stop somewhere at some point. From there, it’s a matter of finding the right space, and hoping others will show some courtesy in their parking manners as you do for them.

Yet, there are some who don’t have such great manners. British parking app Your Parking Space recently conducted a survey of 500 to figure out what bad parking habits irk motorists the most. The top result should surprise no one.

“It’s reassuring to see that [parking in a clearly-marked handicap parking space without a Disabled Person Parking Placard] is the parking habit that makes most people angry as it is totally unacceptable,” says the parking app’s managing director Harrison Woods. Per the survey, 23% said such behavior made them the angriest.

Other issues include people who park too close (22% of those surveyed), those who take up too much space when parking (18%), and those who ding a car, but fail to leave a note (10%).

“Parking can be a contentious issue and the actions of other motorists can make some car drivers see red,” says Harrison, “whether that’s parking too close to another vehicle, taking up too much space or parking where it is not allowed.”
