SoCal’s ‘Miles 4 Miles’ Driving Event Brings Out the Best of the Best
Motor Press Guild’s driving event offered a day of off-roading in Malibu while benefiting a great cause.
On Tuesday afternoon September 17, the staff of Jaguar Forums took the scenic route from El Segundo to Malibu to go off-roading at one of the most scenic spots you could ever imagine. The location was the Calamigos Ranch, and the special occasion was Motor Press Guild‘s “Miles 4 Miles” driving event, which was also a benefit for MPG member Miles Branman, who was badly injured by a drunk driver.
Calamigos Ranch is situated in the backroads of Malibu, down dirt roads but still close enough to feel the cool Pacific Ocean breeze in the air. But of course, we didn’t go just to take in the view and support a good cause. We went there to go off-roading in some of the most incredible automobiles you’re ever going to find situated at one location.
Motor Press Guild’s “Miles 4 Miles” event included a chance to get behind the wheel of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, Audi Q8, Hyundai Palisade, Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400, Jeep Gladiator, Kia Stinger GT-S, Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, Subaru Legacy, many other awesome vehicles. We got the test them all in the same afternoon, rolling through the hills of Malibu on dusty dirt trails beneath a crystal blue sky.
The Calamigos Ranch is generally used for a wedding receptions and big events like TV show tapings, but this afternoon all of that was pushed aside to make room for the invited automotive press to enjoy an afternoon of off-roading.
And even better, participating automakers donated $5 for every mile their vehicles were driven, up to a cap of 200 miles. The more we drove, the more money was raised, with proceeds from the event going to help pay for medical expenses associated with Branman’s accident.
Highlights of the event included a raffle to win slots to drive a McLaren, an Acura NSX, and a 3,000-mile 2001 Acura Integra Type R from American Honda’s museum.
