Real Luxury: Watching TV While Taking a Poop in Your ’54 Rolls-Royce

If there’s one fault of super-high end luxury cars and supercars, aside from that pesky price tag, it’s the fact that the people who own them generally don’t even spend that much time in them. Maybe that wouldn’t be the case if all of them had a toilet and a television inside, like this absolutely stunning 1954 Long Wheelbase Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith Special Saloon.

This rare find was recently sold at a Bonhams auction for $198,000 in Carmel, California at the Quail Lodge and Golf Club, home of possibly the greatest car show on the planet, The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering. Sure seems like an appropriate location for this particular sale, considering this is literally the only Rolls-Royce like it in existence.

This Silver Wraith was coachbuilt by Vignale. Now owned by Ford, Vignale is an Italian company that was founded back in the ’40s. Maybe you remember some of the Ferraris the company built back in the day? Still, this Rolls-Royce is special. With the room from the longer wheelbase, the firm put not only a television and a phone in the rear seating, but also a toilet! It gets better: the toilet has a gold-painted seat. How’s that for a royal throne?

According to Bonhams, however, the toilet was not used as such. Rather, it was used as a simple champagne chiller, which makes a hell of a lot more sense, but makes the story a hell of a lot less interesting. Boo. For more info and photos, head over to the Bonhams listing.
