Race Car for the Road: Maserati MC-12

There aren’t too many cars I can think of in modern production that have worn two-tone paint so wonderfully as the Maserati MC-12. Staves of Bianco Fuji and Blu draw in from the front of the car and kick up sharply at the tail. It lengthens the already impressive tip-to-tail length of the MC-12, while at the same time giving a nod of appreciation to Camoradi’s Tipo 60 Birdcage. Simply put, it is stunning.

I’ll happily admit that this is one of my favorite modern cars. Born from racing homologation standards, the road-going version of the MC-12 shared a number of components with its racing counterpart, though the interior of the “Stradale” street version was notably softer and made for comfort and style. Of course, this “softer” version still contained the 6.0-liter V12 from the Ferrari Enzo.

Few MC-12s exist — just 50 — and even fewer are legal for U.S. roads. This example, for sale by Canepa, is just one of seven that you can use on the street, if that is of interest to you. However, with the absurdly low mileage of just 728 miles, it is likely that the next owner will accumulate mileage at the same rate.
