Essentially a Carrera GTS body, a base Carrera engine, and cloth seats. Does the Carrera T go far enough to sate enthusiast desires?

The increasing number of 911 variants that Porsche offers is starting to make things a little muddled. But rest assured: If you want a 911, they’ve got one for you. And if you’re a serious driving enthusiast, this new 911 Carrera T might be your next Porsche.

Porsche says the “T” stands for Touring. They’ve taken lessons from the GT3 Touring model to bring that experience to a “normal” 370-horsepower 911. Currently, this is the lightest 911 you can order.

The T is also rear wheel drive, has shorter gear ratios, a mechanical locking differential, 20mm lower PASM sport chassis, standard Sport Chrono, a short shifter, and Sport-Tex cloth seat centers. Additionally, you can option the rear wheel steering system, which is not normally available with the base Carrera engine.

As standard, the T eschews rear seats and the PCM infotainment display. The rear and quarter windows are crafted of a thinner glass to save weight. Some sound deadening material has also been removed, and the doors feature GT3 RS-style loops instead of heavier door handles. All told, this accounts for a 44-pound weight reduction.

The front spoiler is also specific to the car, as are the Agate Grey painted side mirrors and Titan Grey 20-inch Carrera S wheels. The twin-center-exit Sport Exhaust is standard. Of course, the car can be fitted with a rear seat and PCM as no-cost options. A PDK is also available, but opting for these three would add back most of the lost weight.

The Carrera T is available to order now with a base MSRP of $102,100 – $11,000 more than the base Carrera. We really wish Porsche had gone a bit more hardcore with this and created a Clubsport version to flog on track. To cynics like us, this just seems like a parts-bin engineered Carrera with cloth seats.
