Pumped Up Kicks: Porsche & Puma Debut New 911 Turbo Sneakers

Puma interprets the Porsche 911 Turbo for its limited-edition kicks. And the ‘The World’s Fastest Sneaker Pre-Release’ launch adds 2.7-seconds of fun and/or panic.

Porsche and sports company Puma have joined forces to create a limited-edition collection of sneakers celebrating the 911 Turbo. The collection includes eight bold and spirited 911 Turbo variants with two classic sneaker styles.

The collaboration succeeds in utilizing design elements of the Porsche 911 Turbo, including sharp period-specific paint colors, rear wings, light bars, interiors, and body lines. With such an inspiration, we were impressed to see the kicks are indeed as special as the car it honors.

Tempted as we may be to call these Air-Cooled Jordans, the shoes manage to capture pure Porsche spirit, which blends seamlessly with Puma’s signature style. They are sleek, striking, and effortlessly convey Porsche’s raw power and speed.

Such a unique collaboration deserves a special launch. As such, a pre-release will roll out on November 16 giving fans the opportunity to purchase the limited-editions sneakers early. But–you’ve got to go full throttle as the window to buy these Turbo-inspired sneakers will last only 2.7 seconds. Yes, the time it takes the 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo to hit 0 to 60 mph. Very clever touch. “The World’s Fastest Sneaker Pre-Release” will happen exclusively at Porsche Design.

“To see the Porsche heritage so seamlessly translated into the design language of PUMA has been a thrill,” says Pedro Mota, Vice President of Marketing for Porsche Cars North America, Inc. “Introducing a new generation of the 911 Turbo this summer was exhilarating, and working with Puma to celebrate the occasion has allowed us to share our sports cars beyond our core enthusiasts.”

For the collaboration, Puma selected two of its “silhouettes,” or model outlines: The 1970s-inspired Future Rider (above) and the motorsport-inspired Speedcat (below). These became the basis for two styles reflecting a key evolution in the 911 engine over time: “Air-Cooled” and “Water-Cooled.” The Future Rider was chosen to represent the first four generations of air-cooled 911 Turbos, Type 930 3.0 L and 3.3 L, Type 964 and Type 993, and the Speedcat picks up the more recent variants, the Type 996, 997, 991 and 992.

Puma really took advantage of the original Porsche paint colors. Porsche including Riviera Blue, Guards Red, Saffron Yellow Metallic, and GT Silver Metallic as an inspiration to give the shoes a look instantly recognizable for any Porsche aficionado.

But, these will likely go fast. Puma x Porsche have produced only 500 pairs per unique sneaker design across all sizes.

Going on sale tomorrow for the official launch, the shoes will retail for $150 per pair. You can check them online at PumaPorsche Design, in-stores at the Puma flagship store in New York, Porsche Design stores in the Los Angeles, Miami, and Houston areas, and the Porsche Experience Centers in Atlanta and Los Angeles.
