Porsche Macan Turbo and BMW M2 Aren’t So Different After All

“This feels just like driving a car,” they say about crossovers. “You’d never know this is a CUV,” they say. “The positioning feels just like a regular vehicle,” they say. Well, about damn time somebody started racing them against cars, now isn’t it?

As AutoExpress presenter Steve Sutcliffe mentions in the video below, these two rides are still quite different in a lot of ways. The Macan is supposed to be an all-around, go-anywhere type with four-wheel-drive, while the M2 coupe has a much more specific focus: intense driving. One can take your friends and family to the footy game, the other, well, it’s supposed to be your own little fun machine.

The M2, which starts at $51,700 MSRP, uses a 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline-6 to make 365 horsepower and weighs 3,516 pounds. The Macan Turbo, which starts at $76,000 MSRP, uses a 3.6-liter turbocharged V6 to make 400 horsepower and weighs 4,244 pounds.

That said, the final results of the match-up are pretty impressive. The M2 gets around the track in 46.19 seconds, and the Macan skirts around in 46.7 seconds. But while the Macan is a bit slower in the get-up, its supreme handling helps it keep pace. Check out the goods below, then let us know what you think.
