Petersen Founding Chair Makes Special Delivery to the Museum

Beverly Hills briefly becomes Le Mans when Bruce Meyer and friends deliver five of the winningest race cars for new exhibit.

The Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles always has wonderful exhibits devoted to the history of the automobile, whether it’s a focus on a specific make, a certain time and place, or a given subculture of motoring.

With the help of Petersen Founding Chairman Bruce Meyer, the museum now has a new exhibit: Winning Numbers: The First, The Fastest, The Famous.

“Affectionately called ‘the car guy’s car guy,’ Bruce Meyer epitomizes true automotive passion,” said Petersen Automotive Museum Executive Director Terry L. Karges. “The charisma with which Bruce shares his passion is what sets him apart. Winning Numbers reflects his discerning tastes as a collector and motorsports enthusiast, and we’re proud to share his fervor for the hobby with the community.”

And what better way to demonstrate his passion than by personally delivering five of the 10 cars for the exhibit to the Petersen. Of course, using a transporter wouldn’t do for the five examples chosen for the special delivery. Thus, with four friends, Meyer led the effort through the streets of Beverly Hills, transforming the posh neighborhood into Le Mans for a brief moment in the afternoon.

Which five made the trek from Meyer’s garage to the exhibition floor through Beverly Hills? There’s the 1957 Ferrari 625/250 Testa Rossa piloted by Meyer, which won first place in over half of the 50 races it ran in its career. Then, there’s the first Corvette to compete at Le Mans, the hot-rod 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB built specifically for the 1961 Le Mans, the 1962 Cobra that won the 1964 Rallye de L’Agaci, and the 1965 Iso Bizzarini that took the top podium in its class in the 1965 Le Mans.

Just imagine the sight of five of the winningest cars ever to grace the track rolling through Beverly Hills, causing everyone to stop what they’re doing and admire the amazing works of art rumbling down the high streets under the palm trees and warm California sun. It’s definitely not a sight anyone sees every day.
