McLaren Will Build Just 15 Ultra Exclusive Sabre Models

McLaren Sabre

Meant just for the United States, the Sabre packs 824 all-motor horsepower. No Hybrid tech here, just brutal speed.

McLaren is very unique. Their line of cars can somehow be both bespoke and assembly line accurate all at once. It almost seems uncanny how a lower volume supercar maker can churn out cars of such high quality. We say this, because McLaren is about to launch a new low volume car. It’s the Sabre, and as you guessed from the headline, just 15 will be made.

According to a Road & Track report, all fifteen Sabre models are for the US market. Why the US market is still to be determined, but the Sabre does contain “ideas and innovations that global homologation would not permit.” It also contains a twin turbo V8 with 824 horsepower, and 590 lb/ft of torque. Not part of the equation? Electricity. You’ll find no hybrid unit here. This car may be one of the last supercars to use only engine power for propulsion. At least it’s still effective. Top speed comes in at 218. It’s not said whether the car is rear drive only, or all wheel drive. If it’s just power at the back, this Sabre may very well stand as one of the last old-school supercars.

It doesn’t look old school though. The rear wing and tailfin remind us quote a bit of the Senna GTR. The tapered rear section has touches of Speedtail in it, too. But, it isn’t exactly a pretty car. The contrasting paint panels, for example, might lend to it looking striking. But beautiful it is not.

Looks didn’t seem to affect the desirability though, as all 15 slated for production are already sold. So if you want one, you’ll have to wait till one heads to an auction. R&T’s report didn’t mention any qualifiers for purchasing the limited run of 15, but we can imagine you’ll have to be well known by McLaren before walking in with a checkbook. Pricing wasn’t released, but we feel it falls under “if you have to ask…”

If you did want to ask, Beverly Hills McLaren will be the first in the US to receive theirs. Other dealers will soon get their allotment as well.
