It’s Races & Rockstars at Long Beach Grand Prix, April 13-15

Formula Drift, an IndyCar Series, and The Cult are ready to bring the noise to Southern California’s city streets!

The streets of Long Beach will soon be alive with the reverberating sounds of a multitude of engine types, from the high-strung alto of Italian V12s, to the rumbling baritone of old-school American V8s. That’s because the Long Beach Grand Prix is nearly here. From April 13-15, some of the biggest motor sport organizations will descend on the South Bay, including Verizon’s IndyCar Series, IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, and Formula Drift.

It’s not every day you get the opportunity to see an IndyCar on a street course. The sound of their forced induction Honda- and Chevrolet-backed V6s being turned to 11 as they hit their 12,000 RPM redline is the thing bucket lists are made of. If you’ve ever wanted to see a borderline go-cart do 185 MPH on a street usually used by school buses and minivans, the IndyCar boys have got you covered.

Want to know what kind of tech the 911s and Mercedes AMGs parked at your local country club will be sporting in five years? Then IMSA’s SportsCar Championship is a can’t-miss event. Not only is it a chance to see the first mid-engine 911s in action, as Porsche’s GT team will be participating with a pair of their 911 RSRs, but also a handful of Cadillac’s dominating DPis as well, including 24 Hours of Daytona winners Mustang Sampling and their No. 5 car.

Formula Drift will also be on hand for those who will forever be made weak in the knees by a tuned Silva making a hairpin look like art in motion. Few things are more entertaining than seeing a pair of JDM titans take corners at entry speeds that defy physics while remaining centimeters apart from each other. OK, maybe a free concert by legendary rockers The Cult might do it. But you’ll get to see both, the JDMs and The Cult, at this year’s event!
