Lexus Cars Shine in the Spotlight at Chicago Auto Show

Lexus always has a great presence, and the Chicago Auto Show was no exception.

Lexus is one of those companies that always has presented itself quite well. We stopped by their display at the Chicago Auto Show to check out their flagship models and came away very impressed. Although their volume sellers took up most of their display area, some special cars were present too.

It wouldn’t be a Lexus show without showing off their latest racing efforts. After a run at the IMSA Rolex 24 at Daytona, this No. 12 AIM Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F was proudly on display. It didn’t have a great showing at Daytona, finishing 12th in class, but it does show that Lexus is taking racing very seriously, and their F line isn’t just about appearance. Car No. 14 had a slightly better showing placing 9th in class.

Just like the LC500 below, the RC F is punching well above its weight. Other cars in the GT3 category include the Acura NSX, AMG GT, Porsche 911, Ferrari 488 and BMW M8. IMSA’s “Balance of performance” rules allow a wide variety of cars to enter, and performance adjustments are made in order to keep cars evenly competitive. We expect that the RC F’s will see a reduction in weight or perhaps allotments to make more power.

The LC convertible is the biggest news for Lexus production cars right now. Shown in Chicago in an amazing shade of Flare Yellow, the LC 500 convertible is sure to take Lexus’ flagship model to new heights. It’s also going to be a thorn in the side of ultra-luxury convertibles that cost an awful lot more. It is really not unreasonable to think of this LC500 convertible in the same realm of an Aston Martin or even a Mercedes. This convertible also totally bucks the trend by using a rag top. We like that.

Also present, and for a very good cause was the Cal’s Angels Lexus LC500. This LC500 was made to raise awareness for pediatric cancer. Cals Angels helps raise money, raise hopes/wishes and provides treatment support to children who suffer from cancer. Lexus has been partnered with Cal’s Angels for years, and we feel it is a great cause to highlight.
