Available as either a coupe, aerocoupe, or roadster, Design-1 combines modernity with classic Le Mans inspiration.

If there’s one thing to be guaranteed about England and sports cars, it’s that there’s always a boutique company ready to release its new offering to the world, only for it to turn out to be vaporware, or, if made, only a handful are built before the company goes out of business, or moves on to another car.

One company is looking to beat the odds, though. Jannarelly is based in Dubai, founded by two Frenchmen: its namesake, Anthony Jannarelly, and Fred Juillot. The duo recently established a branch in London to sell its first car in the market, the Design-1.

Inspired by classic Le Mans cars, the Design-1 hits the ground running with a 3.5-liter V6, making 325 horses and 274 lb-ft of torque to the rear through a six-speed manual. That might not sound like a lot, but according to Jannarelly, the company believes “there is no need for 600-hp car with 4-wheel drive, 20-inch wheels and a sophisticated GPS in order to offer you a sensational sports car.”

The powertrain is dressed in one of three trims: a coupe, an aerocoupe, and a roadster. From there, Jannarelly gives you a few options for your own Design-1, from whether or not you’ll want a windshield, or whether you’ll want the body to use composites or full carbon fiber.

After that, the car will be tailored to your own needs and wants, ensuring you’ll stand out from the other 498 Design-1 owners in the U.K., the U.A.E., and yes, even the United States, and mainland Europe.

“Since launching the Jannarelly Design-1 in 2018, we have seen unprecedented interest in both the United Arab Emirates and mainland Europe,” said Jannarelly. “We are working tirelessly to expand our representation into multiple markets and since we launched the car we have known that the U.K. has one of the world’s most engaged and enthusiastic markets for our car. We are therefore delighted to have a demonstrator available in London so we can show potential customers the Design-1 and everything it has to offer.”

The Design-1 will be available to U.K. customers for $111,180, and can be ordered at their London branch. For that same amount of cash, one could also opt for a Jaguar F-Type R-Dynamic or a Porsche 718 Cayman GT4. Yet, there is something to be said for owning a boutique British (by way of Dubai and France) sports car, especially one that few will ever own.
